Backup & Export

Your shopping history, custom items, and settings are all stored on your phone. If you change phones or accidentally delete the app, a backup means you won't lose a thing. Backups are stored as a .zip file — you choose where to save it.

Opening Backup & Export

Tap ⚙️ Settings (top-right on the main screen), then tap Backup & Export.

Choosing a backup folder

The first time you use backup, you'll be asked to choose a folder where your backup files will be saved. We recommend using Google Drive or other cloud storage — it means your backup is safe even if your phone is lost or broken.

Tap Backup to Folder (or Cloud).

Android's file picker opens. Navigate to a folder on your device — or choose Google Drive if saving to the cloud.

The folder is saved. All future backups — manual and automatic — go here.

Google Drive is the safest choice

Saving to Google Drive means your backup survives a lost or broken phone. If you save to local storage, the backup disappears if you lose the device.

Backing up manually

Once a folder is chosen, tap Back up now. The backup runs immediately and a .zip file is saved to your chosen folder. The file name includes the date and time so you can tell backups apart.

The .zip contains your database (all history, custom items, and settings) plus any receipt photos you've attached to trips.

Automatic backups

Turn on Auto-backup to back up your data in the background without you having to remember. You can choose the frequency:

Daily

A backup runs automatically once a day, usually overnight when your phone is charging.

Weekly

A backup runs once a week. Good enough for most people and keeps your backup folder tidy.

Auto-backup runs when your phone is idle

To save battery, automatic backups wait until your phone is plugged in or idle. If you need a backup right now, tap Back up now instead.

Restoring from a backup

If you change phones, reinstall the app, or lose your data, you can restore from any previous backup file.

Go to ⚙️ Settings → Backup & Export → Restore from backup.

Tap Choose backup file. Navigate to your backup folder and select the .zip file you want to restore from.

Confirm the restore. The app restores your history, custom items, settings, and receipt photos.

Restoring replaces your current data

Restoring from a backup overwrites everything currently in the app. Make sure you've chosen the right file before confirming — this cannot be undone.

Exporting your history as CSV

Want to open your shopping history in a spreadsheet? Tap Export as CSV to create a .csv file containing all your past trips. Each row is one item from one trip, with the date, item name, and category.

The CSV file can be opened in Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, Numbers, or any spreadsheet app.
